Transforming Festivals: SUNBLAST and Holistic Sustainability
360º Sustainability at SUNBLAST: A Comprehensive Commitment
Sustainability in the music and event industry is more than a trend; it is an imperative necessity to preserve our planet. SUNBLAST positions itself at the forefront of this transformation, integrating a 360º approach into every aspect of its production. From its six stages arranged in 360º, featuring music styles like electronic, house, hip-hop, bass, trap, funk, EDM, and more, to its comprehensive focus on sustainability. This festival not only promises fun and entertainment but is also committed to significantly reducing its environmental and social impact, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
The evaluation and continuous improvement post-event ensure that every edition of SUNBLAST becomes more sustainable than the last, fostering a culture of responsibility and climate action. Together—organizers, suppliers, artists, and attendees—we can make sustainability an integral part of our celebrations, ensuring that future generations can also enjoy vibrant, responsible festivals in harmony with the environment.
A 360º Approach to Sustainability
The 360º concept at SUNBLAST is reflected in a comprehensive commitment, encompassing all stages of the event: from planning and production to execution and post-event evaluation.
This holistic vision ensures that all stakeholders—from organizers to attendees—play an active role in creating a sustainable festival.
Sustainable Planning and Production (SDG 12, SDG 13)
Sustainability begins long before the first sound check. During the planning phase, SUNBLAST partners with local suppliers who share its vision of sustainability, promoting the local economy and reducing the carbon footprint associated with the transportation of goods. Consuming local products, such as fruits, vegetables, and other KM 0 items, not only supports local farmers and businesses but also helps reduce the carbon footprint.
Proper Waste Management (SDG 12)
During the festival, efficient waste management is key. SUNBLAST implements strategies to minimize waste generation by eliminating single-use plastics and promoting reusable products. At the start of the event, each attendee receives a cup with a unique Farra design. This cup is a fundamental part of the festival experience and helps reduce plastic waste.
Energy and Water: Responsible Use (SDG 6, SDG 7)
Energy and water consumption are other key focuses. The festival uses renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies to power its facilities. Regarding water, refillable water stations are installed to reduce the use of disposable bottles, and efficient irrigation systems are implemented for green spaces.
Sustainable Mobility (SDG 11, SDG 13)
Attendee mobility is also part of the 360º approach. SUNBLAST recommends using public transport, bicycles, and carpooling to reduce CO2 emissions associated with transportation. As always, shuttle tickets will be available to connect the festival with Magma, facilitating sustainable and convenient access for all attendees.
This initiative not only reduces the carbon footprint but also improves the transportation experience to the event.
Awareness and Participation (SDG 4, SDG 10)
Education and awareness are fundamental pillars of sustainability. SUNBLAST features dedicated environmental education spaces where attendees can learn about sustainable practices and participate in volunteer activities. These spaces, known as the Social & Green Corner, encourage environmental protection and promote equality and social inclusion.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (SDG 12)
The commitment to sustainability does not end with the festival. SUNBLAST conducts post-event evaluations to measure environmental and social impact through carbon footprint calculations and uses this data to improve future editions. This continuous improvement practice ensures that the festival consistently evolves towards a more sustainable model.
Job Creation and Economic Well-being (SDG 8, SDG 10)
SUNBLAST contributes to direct and indirect job creation, fostering the economic well-being of the local community. A large portion of the staff is hired from the municipality of Adeje and neighboring areas, supporting the local economy, reducing commutes, minimizing the carbon footprint, and strengthening ties with the region.
Efficient Crowd Management and Sustainability (SDG 11, SDG 13)
Safety and sustainability are fundamental pillars. Sustainable practices and advanced systems are implemented for crowd management, ensuring a safe and environmentally respectful event. After the event, SUNBLAST commits to presenting a calculation of the event’s carbon footprint and supporting emission compensation projects to make it a carbon-neutral event.
Process Digitization (SDG 9, SDG 12)
Digitizing processes, including advertising, ticketing, and access, is another key strategy. The communication campaign is carried out almost exclusively online, significantly enhancing the event’s sustainability by reducing printed materials and the associated carbon footprint.
Gender Equality (SDG 5)
We promote inclusion and gender equality through our violet point. During the event, we guarantee a space for information, prevention, and support against gender violence and sexual harassment.
